Leon Baranowski
With nearly two decades of experience spanning paramedicine, system reform, and international education, Leon Baranowski is a senior healthcare leader, senior lecturer and researcher dedicated to improving patient outcomes through thoughtful system design, clinical excellence, and compassionate care delivery.
His career includes advanced practice roles, senior leadership positions, and academic appointments across the United Kingdom, Canada, and Australia. Leon has led critical initiatives in clinical governance, education strategy, and out-of-hospital care redesign. While serving as Director of Clinical and Professional Practice at British Columbia Emergency Health Services (BCEHS), he was instrumental in leading development and implementation in acute and urgent care pathways across the province, Canadas first video remote interpretation service for patients, and introduced credentialed, system-aligned education pathways for paramedics. His leadership included the design of a $20 million provincial scope of practice initiative that reshaped out of hospital clinical standards in British Columbia.
Leon’s international work includes contributions to EMS education and service development in Mongolia, where he has been a member of the EMS Global initiative since 2023. In this role, he work closely with local system partners to understand needs and develop simulation-based education, and workforce development.
Leon’s academic and research interests include out-of-hospital workforce reform, simulation, and implementation science. He current holds academic appointments at Monash University and was previously affiliated with the UK’s College of Paramedics. His current focus is on integrating data-informed decision-making with front-line clinical practice to improve both individual patient care and system-level performance.
Dividing his time between Melbourne, Vancouver, and Yorkshire, Leon remains a committed contributor to healthcare transformation and capacity-building in low- and middle-income countries, while supporting emerging leaders in the paramedic profession.
